Do you think that your parents’ auto insurance policy will insure you? It’s not as simple as that!
Is this you?
-When you were young, maybe 16 years old, you were added to your parents’ auto insurance policy.
-Eventually, when you got older and got married, your parents allowed you to stay on their auto insurance policy.
If you and your vehicle are listed on your parents’ auto insurance policy, are you covered and do you have nothing to worry about? Well, it’s not as simple as that.
First of all, if your parents paid for your auto insurance when you were in high school, that is awesome. Don’t forget to thank them! 😊 If you are married and your parents still pay for your auto insurance, then wow, you are saving a lot of money!!
This is what you need to know:
-Just because a driver or a vehicle is on an auto insurance policy doesn’t mean that there might not be big problems if there is an insurance claim. The insurance policy must be set up correctly.
-Your parents’ auto insurance policy most likely does not allow you to remain on their policy if 1) you are not living with your parents, or 2) you are married.
-It might seem all fine and dandy being on your parents’ auto insurance policy but if there is a claim, you might find out the hard way that it might not be covered….and that would be VERY BAD.
The reason that we have auto insurance is to be properly covered if there is an accident. If you cause an accident and injure someone, it can get VERY EXPENSIVE. It is well worth your time to ask your parents’ auto insurance company to find out if you are allowed to be on there. You don’t want to find out the hard way. That could be a very expensive mistake!
If you are married and live at your own address, then I would be shocked if your parents’ auto insurance policy would cover you. If you are married but still live with your parents, then there is a chance. Make sure to confirm with the insurance company.
Good luck!!
