The parent-teen driving contract

Rules, rules, rules….. It seems like we sure have a lot of rules in life, especially in such a civil place like the good ole’ U S of A. Did you know that rules, in a crazy way, can actually be a good thing?

There are all kinds of crazy statistics out there. While there are good statistics like “If you eat an apple a day, you are 3.5 times more likely to keep the doctor away when you reach the age of 70 years old than if you are a double chocolate shake,” there are also many bad statistics out there, like “If you listen to rock and roll music, there is a 12 times more chance that you will end up in prision by the end of high school than if you only listened to Mozart.” (You would also be about 10 times less likely to get in street brawls, be chased by the police and be tempted to do anything with a fake ID, but that is another story).

In case you have ever thought about this like I have, you want to be a part of the GOOD statistics, not the bad ones. It is proven (and I can show you some statistics on this if you’d like) that you are more likely to be on the lucky side of things if you are following the rules.

When it comes to driving statistics, especially TEEN DRIVING STATISTICS, the numbers can get pretty scary. The main cause of death and major impairment amongst the youth population is by far auto accidents. In fact, teens are three times more likely to be involved in a fatal auto accident than any other driver on the road.

Take a look at this chart:

What is the number one cause of death in auto accidents? It is not drinking and driving or speeding, it is driver error. So many aspects of driver error will be reviewed with the parent-teen driving contract, thus informing the teen of possible situations they may find themselves in, thus empowering them to be the best drivers that they can be.

There is a reason why auto insurance rates skyrocket when a teen reaches the ripe age of sixteen and takes his or her rightful place behind the wheel of mom and dad’s car. Young drivers are a lot riskier.

I will let you think about the reasons why, but I’m sure that if you think about if for a couple of minutes, you will be able to find just a couple.

There are a lot of parent-teen driving contracts out there, but Travelers Insurance has the one that we like the most. This is definitely something that Ullrich Insurance supports and would like to share with its clients.
